THE AHOY Centre in Deptford and the Royal Borough of Greenwich are offering free sailing taster session for young people this April.
The sailing sessions will give anyone from the Royal Borough of Greenwich aged between 15-25 the chance to get out on the Thames in a sailing boat.
The initiative, delivered by Charlton Athletic Community Trust, comes ahead of the Tall Ships Regatta which is being hosted by the Royal Borough of Greenwich and will be the biggest tall ships event in London for 25 years.
Councillor Peter Kotz Royal Borough of Greenwich Cabinet Member for Cultural and Creative Industries said:
“This is a brilliant chance for anyone interested in the idea of sailing to see what it’s like – and I want to thank to AHOY for putting these sessions on. It’s a great way for young people who are interested in signing up to crew a tall ship this summer to get some experience under their belt.
People have an amazing and unique opportunity with the Tall Ships Regatta coming to London this year – when else would you get the chance to race an historic vessel and have the potentially life-changing experience of being a crew member.”
The sessions will take place in the Easter holidays (April 7 - 11) and anyone interested can get further information by calling 020 8293 5355 or emailing katy.mcardlecastle@cact.org.uk
Tall ships regatta will place in September this year.
