A WEEKEND of events to mark the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta got started today as a replica of the document was carried down the Thames.
The document was carried on board the Royal Shallop Jubilant by Charter BearersĀ in a Thames relay with the Queen's row barge leading the flotilla. New Charter Bearers joined the vessel at handover points along the way.
The first leg of the Magna Carta Thames Relay started at Hurley Riverside this morning and by this evening had reached Oakley Court Hotel near Dorney Lake.
The journey continues tomorrow with the relay, organised by Thames Alive, continuing to Runnymede where Magna Carta was sealed 800 years ago.
